[ARES] OHS/GEMA SOC Station Standing Down

Due to band conditions and traffic handling requirements coming to a stand still, the State Operations Center (SOC) will "Stand Down" at 4pm (2000UTC). This means all activities HF, VHF, Packet and WINLINK. The 7.275 MHz. frequency was closed down around 12Noon due to bad band conditions.

Mike (K4HBI) MARS DEC and OOC found our interference problem on 3.975MHz. It is an AM Broadcast station located very close to the SOC location. Unfortunately a harmonic of the station's fundamental frequency rests on 3.970MHz. and it's strong. It kept us from hearing stations with less than a 10dB to 15dB over S9 signal. I won't go into details here but some antenna work and a filter are in order here to overcome this major problem.

Thanks for all that participated. I have several "Lessons Learned" ideas to go over and improve on the SOC capabilities.

Good job folks. Thanks again.
