GAARES-P2P NET WEEKLY UPDATE FOR SUN 1-DEC, 2024
For your convenience, a pdf copy of this document is available in the posting at [email protected]
We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. This week’s check-ins, times, and frequencies are the same as last week.
There are two questions to answer this week in your check-in message:
- First, we have a survey question concerning your 60m (5MHz) capability to gauge interest in trying a test of that band in Georgia.
- Second, the Fun Question of the week.
FUN QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Winlink uses Center Frequency terminology. The Dial Frequency is always _______ kHz ________ the Center Frequency.

TRAINING SUBJECT OF THE WEEK – VARA HF TNC WINDOW HIDDEN:
When you “Open” a Vara HF Session in Winlink Express, do you see the Vara HF TNC Modem Window on your computer monitor? Or, do you have to Alt-TAB to get it from the background to the screen? There are reasons you might want one or the other, depending on your monitor(s) size, how many other programs you keep open, etc. If you want the TNC Window to show on-screen automatically, do the following:
Open a Vara HF Session, then go to Settings, then Vara TNC Setup. In the lower area of the window, click the checkbox for “Show the Vara TNC Screen when it’s launched.”
Note: IF you have to manually start Vara every time you do a session, click the checkbox that says “Automatically launch Vara TNC when session is opened.”
GAARES-P2P Net hopes to see you check in on Sunday! As always, stations are welcome to check in on one or both bands.
FEEDBACK:
We need more involvement in Winlink P2P here in Georgia so help spread the word to hams in your local area about this new training opportunity. Participants do not need to be previously involved in ARES at any level nor be GAARES members. All stations are welcome to participate. Always feel free to contact me with any comments, suggestions or corrections. I’m happy to get the feedback. Email me at [email protected] or post at [email protected]
