This summary is also on the gaares.groups.io website and is also in the Files Section there in pdf format
GENERAL: This week, we encouraged participants to check in via either /PORTABLE or /MOBILE. Those who did are listed below and will also be on the map with special markers. In retrospect, it never occurred to me a few days ago that this Sunday is Mother’s Day and that it would be a very poor day to have anyone do anything special for check-in. Net participation today was UNDERSTANDABLY low and my apologies. In addition, propagation was REALLY bad today for short skip within Georgia.
PORTABLE: K4HYJ (80m, KX3, KXPA100, Navigator, Texas Bug Catcher antenna, 25aH LiFePo)
KT4LS (40m, Buddipole mast with two 40m hamsticks in dipole config)
MOBILE: ND1J (800m, IC7100 with 80m Hamstick on car roof, LiFePo 15aH)
WX4DRC (80m, FT-857D, PK-232SC, Hamstick)
ADVANCE LOOK AT NEXT WEEK’S NET:
The tentative plan is to go with the exact same instructions next week and see if we can get a few more people out there /P or /M.
FUN QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
This question was asked to see if you had read the Training Section two weeks ago. Apparently, few people had.
If you try to connect to WG4PTP using a Vara HF Winlink Session (instead of a Vara HF P2P Session), what if any errors will you get?
A. You will not get a connection
B. You will get a message “Winlink Session connected to Peer-to-Peer station”
C. You will get a connection but the first line will say Peer-to-Peer Vara Connection to …
D. You will get errors and a disconnect but they do not tell you what is wrong
Explanation:
A. Incorrect: You will get a connection, even though you are using the wrong session type. After some hand-shaking, a disconnect will occur with no message sent.
B. Correct: This is a new feature in Winlink Express Version 1.7.23.0, released about three weeks ago. The Training Session in the April 26 Net Update covered this, complete with screenshots.
C. Incorrect: You will get a connection, but since you are using a Winlink Session, you will not get this message. That only appears when you are using a P2P Session.
D. Incorrect: You do get errors and they do tell you want is wrong
Results:
A. 8
B. 5 (28 % )
C. 2
D. 3
